Lockdown

One fine night, I simply thought,
“What a beautiful house my father has bought!
A computer, a phone, and a nice wardrobe,
A bookshelf, a big bed, and a small globe!

All luxuries are here, within these four walls,
Then what is the need to go out, after all?
Lying in the bed, I’ll read what I like,
No strict rules, I’ll make hair spikes!

There’ll be no school, no homework and no scolding,
Only a mouse, a keyboard and a phone I’ll be holding!
No teacher, no subject that day I’ll fear,
No uniform, no simple outfits, only fancy clothes I’ll wear!”

The next morning I get up and I hear,
A virus is spreading, and infecting anyone near.
“We all will die of it.” the scientists disclosed,
The government, in response, got a lockdown imposed!

I had no genie, and I had no clue,
I was super surprised, as my wishes had come true!
I asked myself what power I’d got,
People had tried to get schools closed earlier, but I had only thought!

I was so overwhelmed with this fact,
No school, no work; I didn’t know how to react!
Digital games and my phone became my life,
Because I’d left all science equations and mathematical pis!

Life was super exciting — for two weeks at least,
I had all the fun I wanted to, and enjoyed delicious feasts!
But after a few weeks, when boredom set in, I thought,
“What to do now? What else has this small room got?”

Nowhere to go, no friends to meet,
It’s been ages since I moved my feet!
Now when I think and look back, Freedom is what all these things lack!

Social distancing is not the last option — but a necessity of today,
Holidays, parties, and reunions should just stay at bay.
“Can nothing stop this virus?” we all shout,
Stay home, Stay safe and don’t come out!
